What is the purpose?

The Pre-Marriage Preparation component of the TWOgether Pittsburgh initiative will provide engaged couples and persons interested in marriage with a conceptual framework for a vital marriage. Participants will develop skills that contribute directly to healthy, fulfilling marital relationships.

Who should be involved?

The sessions are open to engaged couples, seriously dating couples, as well as individuals who are interested in learning the essential relationship skills for marriage.

How will the program work?

The participants will meet in a workshop setting for six educational sessions comprised of skill-building activities, discussion, and reflection. Alternatively, the same material may be delivered in a weekend program, comprised of an opening event on a Friday evening followed by a Saturday workshop.

The workshop material has been generated from the PREPARE/ENRICH program. The participants who are established in a relationship will be asked to take the PREPARE inventory; information from that tool will be used to inform their educational experience.

What topics will be discussed?

The conceptual framework for a healthy marriage is built upon certain solid principles. These principles range from the critical practice of effective communication, conflict resolution, and financial management skills to the fundamental development of realistic marital expectations, integral goal setting, and genuine intimacy.
