Marriage Preparation for Couples

Are you planning your wedding? Or seriously dating a special person?

Anxiously choosing a minister, church, reception hall, attendants, wedding bands, gowns, tuxedos, honeymoon package...Wondering if you are building a lasting relationship with a truly compatible partner...

If yes, join us for the Marriage Preparation workshop where you will discover key principles for building a vital, fulfilling marriage.

About the Program

The activities are designed to help you become comfortable talking to each other about the possibilities and challenges you face as a couple, and you will focus on some key topics:

  • Realistic expectations -- are we too idealistic?
  • Effective communication – are we really listening to one another and are we really saying what we mean?
  • Conflict resolution – do we know how to deal with the tough issues together
  • Genuine intimacy – do we express love and affection to one another?
  • Financial management – do we know how to develop and follow a workable budget?
  • Family backgrounds -- have we talked about how our family environment may be impacting our current relationships?

The workshop material has been generated from the PREPARE/ENRICH program developed by Life Innovations. The participants will be asked to take the PREPARE Inventory, a highly respected and time-tested tool, that helps the couples identify strengths and challenges in their relationship.

"A lot of people have preconceived notions about marriage classes. It really is not the normal marriage class."

- Mark & Kristen M., participants

What's It All About?

The Marriage Preparation component of the TWOgether Pittsburgh initiative will provide engaged couples and persons interested in marriage with a conceptual framework for a vital marriage. The framework is built upon principles that range from the critical practice of effective communication, conflict resolution, and financial management skills to the fundamental development of realistic marital expectations, integral goal setting, and genuine intimacy.

Is It for Me?

The sessions are open to engaged couples, seriously dating couples, as well as individuals who are interested in learning the essential relationship skills for marriage.

What Should I Expect?

Participants will develop skills that contribute directly to healthy, fulfilling marital relationships.

The participants will meet in a workshop setting for six educational sessions comprised of skill-building activities, discussion, and reflection. Alternatively, the same material may be delivered in a weekend program, comprised of an opening event on a Friday evening followed by a Saturday workshop.

The workshop material has been generated from the PREPARE/ENRICH program. The participants who are established in a relationship will be asked to take the PREPARE inventory; information from that tool will be used to inform their educational experience.

Program Formats

At TWOgether Pittsburgh we understand that you may have time constraints, so we've created different program formats to fit your needs. However, we highly recommend taking a multi-week class to benefit the most from this program.
